With a focus on innovative interpretations and new modes of expression, Viennese gamba player Christoph Urbanetz is known for bringing out the groove and energy from his instrument. Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Cecilia Bartoli and Giovanni Antonini are some of the great musicians with whom he has collaborated leading to appearances in the most prestigious halls in Europe. As a current leading expert on the largely unknown catalogue of performance instructions by Marin Marais, he has a PhD from Mozarteum Salzburg and holds positions as a viol teacher at the universities of Graz and Krakow. In his free time Christoph loves being in nature and on mountain summits, which are sources for his inspiration.
Concert premiere: Saturday 24th April
Baroque on the Rocks
Being in the mountains and overlooking nature, Christoph Urbanetz always had the most amazing music in his head, experiencing it with all senses. Christoph would like to take this inspiring feeling on stage, share it and connect with it to the audience through his love of the Baroque repertoire.
As part of the festival’s Green Mission, Christoph has chosen to complete the following task provided by Harmonic Progression: to do something secret.
